Dirk Carlson, MD emphasizes care of the whole patient and the doctor-patient relationship as one of the most important parts of medicine. He enjoys the continuity of patients whom he has delivered and now continues to follow—often as their primary care physician—and he continues to love the practice of obstetrics, regardless of what time of day the stork arrives. He understands that each baby is a miracle from God.
Originally from Alabama, Dr. Carlson earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, and completed his OB/GYN residency training through the Medical University of South Carolina. His served with the U.S. Air Force at Mountain Home Air Force Base, giving him his first exposure to southern Idaho. After completing his commitment to the Air Force, he and his family returned to the South for three years before returning to Boise in 1994. In his spare time, Dr. Carlson enjoys reading and, depending on the time of year, he enjoys golf, gardening, and cross country skiing with his wife, and spending time with their three (mostly-grown) children. |
