St. Luke’s Hosts
5th Annual Luke Awards
Hospital Recognizes Albertsons and
Charles & Carolyn
Leader for
Extraordinary Support of St. Luke’s Children’s
Hospital -
Boise, ID (December 1, 2004) St. Luke’s Health Foundation
will host the 5th annual Luke Award ceremony on tonight from
5:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Regional Medical
Center. The Luke Award, presented by the St. Luke’s
Health Foundation’s Children’s Advisory Board,
recognizes individuals and businesses that have demonstrated
extraordinary commitment to fundraising efforts for St. Luke’s
Children’s Hospital. This year’s Luke Award will
be presented to Charles and Carolyn Leader of Boise for their
outstanding volunteer support and to Albertsons for the organization’s
outstanding support as a corporate partner.
“
Every year, hundreds of volunteers and businesses support
special events to raise funds and awareness for St. Luke’s
Children’s Hospital,” said Jeff Cilek, Executive
Director of St. Luke’s Health Foundation. “This
award represents an opportunity for us to honor those who
contribute so generously
to St. Luke’s and to the health of this community.”
Albertsons
Albertsons is a year-round partner with St. Luke’s
Children’s Hospital. Their leadership in this community
is significant, but paramount is the impact Albertsons has
had through their philanthropic and charitable efforts.
Albertsons is truly committed to helping kids at every
opportunity. Albertsons made a corporate gift to St.
Luke’s Campaign
for Kids. This donation will enable St. Luke’s
to add a Family Consultation and Education Room to the
newborn intensive
care unit (NICU).
Their large financial contribution to
the Campaign for Kids is just a small example of Albertsons
generosity,
and only one area where they support St.
Luke’s with donations of time, products and heart. Other examples
include, the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon and Radiothon, Kid
For A Night, Scramble for the Kids Golf Tournament and Karnations for Kids
where they generously
supplied more than 120,000 carnations in the last four years alone!
Another way Albertsons supports the local community is through their Community
Partners Card. This is a partnership between Albertsons and community schools,
youth programs and not-for-profit organizations like St. Luke’s.
Every time a customer shops at Albertsons and shows their Community Partners
Card,
a percentage of the customer’s purchase is donated to the participating
charity.
Albertsons support of St. Luke’s Children’s
Hospital is not based on a corporate giving philosophy; rather
Albertsons and its
employees simply
believe that helping St. Luke’s kids is the right thing to do.
Charles & Carolyn
Leader
Charles and Carolyn Leader are the type of people others want to be
around. They are hard working, generous and a joy to be with. Charles
works in
the IT Department of St. Luke’s while Carolyn works as a clinical
supervisor at St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI).
Charles and Carolyn always go beyond what is expected of them. They
generously commit their time,
talent and enthusiasm to helping hospitalized kids at St. Luke’s
Children’s
Hospital. They are a team dedicated to helping out in every way, year
after year.
Charles joined the Children’s Miracle
Network Committee in 1995, soon after he became employed
by St. Luke’s. Carolyn
joined the committee in 1996. They have both volunteered their time
and energy to the CMN Radiothon
and CMN Telethon. Charles used his personal breaks and lunchtime
to visit the CMN Radiothon in an effort to offer his support
and help.
Kid For A Night has also benefited from Charles
and Carolyn’s talents.
They joined Kid For A Night in 2001 and since then have spent countless
hours soliciting auction items and lending their fundraising
expertise in support
of this committee and the event. Charles and Carolyn’s involvement
has helped Kid For A Night continue to be a successful fundraising
event for St.
Luke’s. They inspire other volunteers and donors with their
willingness to serve, simply for the joy that helping others brings.
Always smiling, they demonstrate the spirit
of St. Luke’s
Children’s
Hospital. Charles and Carolyn can always be counted on to lend
their time and energy to any event that needs their help. They
have never said no. Charles
and Carolyn’s commitment inspires many people and benefits
many children – they
are a remarkable team!
