Blood and Marrow Transplant
The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program
at St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI) is the first and only one of its
kind in Idaho. Our patients receive the region’s most
advanced therapies, with the benefit of care close to home.
Studies show that patient outcomes in community transplant programs, such as St. Luke’s MSTI's, are equal to those at academic medical centers. Moreover, our patients tell us that their quality of life is better because they are able to stay close to home and family. We are committed to working with patients and physicians throughout every stage of the transplant process, and to returning patients home as soon as possible.
Our Blood and Marrow Transplant Program Provides:
- A highly trained multidisciplinary team of care providers, including specially trained physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and others.
- An on-site, full-service BMT Laboratory that performs the collection, cryopreservation, and storage of all stem cell products.
- The advantages of participation in national clinical trials. In addition, we work in close cooperation with regional academic and research centers.

national non-profit organization that promotes high-quality
patient care and quality laboratory performance.
Since 1993, St. Luke's MSTI has been performing autologous transplants (using the patient’s own stem cells) and syngeneic transplants (using cells from an identical twin). Like other recognized centers around the country, our team uses mobilized peripheral blood stem cells in the transplant process.
When referred by their oncologist, we treat adults and children 16 and older. The primary diseases treated are:
- Lymphomas and Hodgkin’s disease
- Multiple myeloma
- Acute leukemia
- Testicular cancer
